The brain has two familiar modes. When we focus on a task, the task-positive network (TPN) switches on. When we daydream or think about ourselves, the default mode network (DMN) becomes more active. The two usually take turns, like a seesaw. Research suggests that in ADHD, the DMN does not settle down reliably during tasks. It keeps cutting in, so attention comes and goes. This talk explains the idea in plain language and looks at what can help in daily life.
